Lunar New Year is another opportunity for cultural awareness and appreciation in district buildings

Cultural awareness — the understanding of dynamic values and beliefs of different cultures — remains an important instructional component at Minisink Valley, with faculty and staff creating unique and diversified opportunities throughout the year.

Most recently, faculty and staff presented lessons, created displays and held events celebrating the Lunar New Year, also known at the Spring Festival. It’s an important holiday in the traditional Chinese calendar, which is lunisolar, meaning it defines years, months and day by movement of the moon and sun. This year is the Chinese zodiac’s “The Year of the Rabbit.”
