Seventeen High School Drama Club students attended the recent New York State Theatre Education Association’s 27th Annual Student Conference at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon, where they took part in creative workshops focusing on a variety of topics designed to increase their knowledge about the theatre/performing arts world.

“This was an amazing weekend that inspires, motivates, and educates our students in the performing arts,” said advisor Laura Hulle. “This conference demonstrated to students how theatre can transform a life. We had a great delegation who brought their interest in the theatre arts, their talent and passion and showed everyone there how committed the district is to the performing arts.”

Student representatives were Emily Bartels, Kelsi Berghahn, Amelia Bohr, Makayla Collins, Elizabeth Crowe, Sean Crowe, Alexis DeBeauvernet, Hana Ebbert, Ethan Hidalgo, Isaiah Johns, Ashlynn Kumar, Cheyann Kumar, Kaitlyn McElduff, Gavin McGinnis, Faith Padavano, Alexa Ramos and Mia Twyman.

Students attended workshops given by colleges, universities and other theatre professionals from Broadway and beyond in a wide range of theatre topics and techniques. Conference highlights included a showcase banquet of student-written short plays, a special Saturday night “Once Upon a Time” ball and students showing their talents during the “open mics.”

“Our delegation met and shared their interests with other similarly-minded students from all parts of New York State,” Mrs. Hulle added. “It’s a wonderful way to learn.”
