Four Varsity wrestlers won first place in their weight classes at the Girls Section IX Championships today, Feb. 16, at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh.
Congratulations to:
Kiera Filip, 114-pound weight class
Sara Pauls, 126-pound weight class
Caitlin McIlroy, 165-pound weight class
Jaida Macaluso, 185-pound weight class
They now advance to the NYSPHSAA Individual Wrestling championships, to be held Feb. 26 at the MVP Arena in Albany.
In addition, Section IX this year sends runner-up wrestlers in select weight classes to the State Championships to complete the championship brackets.
Congratulations to these wrestlers who advance to state competition as a result of their second-place finishes:
Kenzie Welch, 132-pound weight class
Olivia Carroll, 185-pound weight class
Additional finalists who finished as Section IX runners-up and are New York State alternates are:
Zoe Ford, 94-pound weight class
Amelia Patzelt, 120-pound weight class
Minisink Valley also won the tournament's team championship!
