Otisville Elementary celebrates kindness during ‘Kindness Week’ initiative

girl with artworkOtisville Elementary School’s annual “Kindness Week” wrapped up today, March 12,  featuring weeklong activities to reinforce the  the importance of kindness.

Fifth-grader Raya Roberto drew Otisville Elementary for the school’s hallway “kindness” Her inspiration came from Disney’s “Up.” All classrooms made balloons listing all the ways they can show kindness!

During this week, students heard messages during morning announcements about how to be kind. Teachers did lessons, read books and showed videos about kindness. Today, March 12, the staff and many students wore kindness shirts.

The week-long challenges to students were:

  • Monday: The school message was about showing empathy for others. The challenge was to smile and say “Good Morning” to someone near them.
  • Tuesday: The message was about how to show appreciation to those who help us. The challenge was for the students to find time to say “thank you” to someone who meant the most to them.
  • Thursday: The message was about making and keeping friends by giving out compliments. The challenge is to give compliments to five different people.
  • Friday: The message was about passing kindness on to others. The challenge for students is to work together to have everyone experience something kind.
