Senior Jason Davis named O-U BOCES CTEC salutatorian

Senior Jason Davis, who also attends the Orange-Ulster BOCES’ Career and Technical Center (CETC), is CETC’s 2021  salutatorian.

Jason attends the CETC Transportation Careers Academy, where aviation students learn the necessary skills to obtain the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) private pilot certificate, the first step in an aviation career.

The classroom portion of the program includes instruction in areas such as: aerodynamics, airspace, aircraft performance, communication and radar service, aeronautical charts, aircraft systems, meteorology for pilots, FAA regulations, weight and balance calculations, flight operations, weather charts, aeromedical factors, emergency procedures, and cross-country flight planning.

The flight portion teaches students how to safely operate the airplane during all phases of flight including: taxiing, take-off, straight and level, climbs, descents, turns, ground reference and performance maneuvers and various types of landings.

This fall, Jason will be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona. He will  major in aerospace engineering and will enter the military after college. Jason has been awarded a ROTC scholarship.

Jason has participated in high school’s men’s ensemble, and has been a member of the school’s varsity swimming and diving  team for three  years. He hopes to earn his private pilot’s license before entering Embry-Riddle this fall.
