Michele YorkeMeet Michele Yorke, Business Office payroll clerk!

What’s your favorite aspect of your job?

Hands down, my favorite aspect of my job is that I am one of the lucky few who actually gets to meet everyone who is employed here at the district. Well, at least the ones who have started after I arrived in 2013! I have met countless people in my time here and can honestly say that you can learn something new from everyone you meet and I have made some very good friends along the way.

Why do you believe in and support the work of the Minisink Valley School District and what it does for the community?

I believe in and support the work of the Minisink Valley School District and what it does for the community because I have never seen a group of people come together and work so tirelessly to give our students the best education and the best overall academic experience possible.  Not to mention all the programs we have to help community members in need. Minisink prides itself on its sense of community and supporting it in any way necessary.

How has  the pandemic refocused the work you do every day?

Friday, March 13, 2020, many of us were sent home with a laptop.  Just like that, without any warning or notice, we all had to go home and figure out how we were going to do our job remotely, never having done it before.

Truth be told, even from the very beginning of the pandemic, we, in the Business Office, were never able to do our job fully from home but with careful planning and making a weekly schedule, we found a way to make it work.  It was a good feeling to know that in spite of all the uncertainty we were facing, our employees would still receive a paycheck.  Having the flexibility of working remotely when we cannot be in the office has become a real asset in how we do our jobs moving forward.

What do you want to say directly to the community about the importance of your work?

The importance of my work is probably quite obvious, after all, who doesn’t like getting a paycheck?

My job affects everyone that works for the district and that requires a lot of dedication. Organization, accuracy and attendance are a must when you are the payroll clerk.  My main objective is to help our employees with any payroll-related issues they may have and to put their minds at ease that they will be properly addressed. I may not work directly with the students here at Minisink but supporting the staff that does is the next best thing.  And I do enjoy hearing the occasional “I love you” on pay day!
