Tickets are on sale for the the High School Drama Club’s performances of “Anything Goes,” the feel good song and dance musical telling “the age old tale of boy meets girl.”

“Anything Goes” is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where nightclub singer Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Joining in on the excitement aboard the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-in-crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing angels and good old-fashioned teasing, Reno, Moonface, and company all join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

“Anything Goes” is “delightful, delicious and de-lovely” and filled with family-friendly music, dance and laughs. It’s a hilarious shipboard romp wrapped in one of Cole Porter’s most magical scores.

This 2022 Revision has twice as much dance music as the 1962 version and includes the hits “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “You’re the Top,” “Friendship,” “It’s De-Lovely” and the title song, along with “Easy to Love,” “Goodbye, Little Dream, Goodbye” and “Buddie, Beware.”

“Anything Goes” premiered on Broadway on Nov.  21, 1934 at the Alvin Theatre, where it ran for 420 performances, becoming the fourth longest-running musical of the 1930s.

A revised version of the show opened Off-Broadway at the Orpheum Theatre on May 15, 1962, starring Eileen Rodgers as Reno Sweeney and Hal Linden as Billy Crocker.

In 1987, Lincoln Center Theater produced an updated version of the show. Opening at Broadway’s Vivian Beaumont Theater on October 19, 1987, the show starred Patti LuPone, Howard McGillin and Bill McCutcheon, won the Tony Award for Best Revival, and played for 784 performances.

In 2011, the Beaumont version was revived at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Broadway, starring Sutton Foster and Joel Grey. Once again, Anything Goes won the Tony for Best Musical Revival, and the production ran for 521 performances.

Performances are April 20, 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. at the High School Auditorium.
