Varsity Wrestling Team wins Section IX, Division I Dual Meet Championship

Congratulations to the Varsity Wrestling team, who are the Section IX, Division I Dual Meet Champions!

This is the team’s sixth consecutive championship, won between 2017 to 2023.

“I’m very happy for our guys and girls,” said Varsity Coach Kevin Gallagher. “They work hard every day in practice and a lot of them year-round.  We had to do this without two of our defending New York State champions, Zack Ryder and P.J. Duke, who are both out with injuries.  I was very happy for our seniors who have never lost a Section IX dual meet during their high school career and our entire team for winning our sixth consecutive Section IX Dual Meet Championship.”

Next up for the team is the Dual Meet State Championship, to be held Saturday, Jan. 28 at the SRC Arena & Events Center at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.

“Minisink Valley’s wrestling program is a force to be reckoned with,” said Athletic Director Tim Bult. “The team is determined and prepared. They know that wrestling achievements are earned through hard work. We wish them much luck and success at states.”
