Jillian E. Dolce was one of nine women recognized at the Women of Achievement of Orange County annual dinner on May 11. Her youth and achievements stood out among her fellow honorees, all of them career women, and earned her the additional distinction of Woman of the Future.

An accomplished MVHS student-athlete, Jillian was raised by a family of volunteers and was always taught to put others before herself. In seventh grade, moved by the struggle of a peer’s parent battling Lymphoma, she organized her first fundraising walk to benefit cancer survivors and raised $16,000. Before she completed seventh grade, she started her own non-profit, One Step at a Time. Since then, Jillian’s fundraising initiatives have raised $101,000 for a variety of causes.

As a high school sophomore in Minisink, she started the CARE Club – Cancer Awareness Research & Education – to learn and educate others about different types of cancer and to help individuals and families in the community fighting the disease. CARE currently boasts 15 members.

Jillian will be studying nursing at Mount Saint Vincent College in the Bronx, NY, where she plans to specialize in pediatric oncology. This path was made clear to her while she job-shadowed at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Exposed to severely ill, hospitalized children, Jillian saw hope in their enduring smiles and their insistence in being kids.

“I believe I’m a leader. I know what’s best for me and my future – and I’m ready for it,” Jillian said in her profile in the current edition of Orange Magazine. Her family, teachers and peers all have great confidence in Jillian’s future and her drive to make a difference.

In its 24th year, the Tribute to Women of Achievement of Orange County annual dinner recognizes the achievements of women and girls who have made a difference to the community in their professional, personal, or school-based activities. The event is co-hosted by Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson and YWCA Orange County.

Congratulations, Jillian E. Dolce, Woman of the Future!
