BOYS AND GIRLS XC ENTER CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON

By Coach Edward Sucich

After a very successful regular season, the cross country team will be competing in the County Championships at Bear Mountain, on Friday, October 27.

Boys varsity season highlights…
—Our athletes had an excellent showing at The Burnt Hills Invitational, and the team took 5th place. Seniors Jamie Granata and Scott Wortmann, as well as junior Aiden Berlinski, all broke the 16-minute mark on the 3-mile course.  unior Nate Mason and senior Ben Hopkins rounded out our top 5, each recording personal records (PRs) and breaking the 17-minute mark. Freshman Steven Struk continued his impressive first season running 17:13, and junior Caelan Munsch ran a PR of 17:45.

Girls varsity season highlights…
—The team was led by Victoria Burger’s sub 20-minute effort. In spite of some injuries to key runners, several athletes stepped up and competed admirably. Junior Kathleen McCarey demonstrated the greatest improvement among our runners. Her work ethic and enthusiasm paid off with a 21:07 PR. Junior Claire Brenner has been a steady runner for the team and is peaking at the right time of the season. Kailey Tvedt, who is just an 8th grader, has had a wonderful season and clocked a 22:00 finish. Sophomores Abby Povill and Annavictoria Mazariegos have also stepped up to score for the varsity team. Both JV teams performed well, so the future looks bright.

Seniors recognition…
—At this time, we would also like to acknowledge our seniors, as they prepare to run the last races of their high school careers. They are Jamie Granata, Ian Guyette, Frank Hauber, Ben Hopkins, Dylan Hopkins, Erik Kroll, Ebony Oenga, Justin Olulenu, Meghan Putnam, and Scott Wortmann.  These ten runners were recognized at a Senior Night ceremony earlier this month.

Best wishes to our XC teams at the County and Section competitions! Go Warriors!
