While schools nationwide address uncertainty and a range of potential scenarios for the fall, Minisink Valley knows reopening our schools is a community-wide undertaking and we’re looking for your input.

As we await federal, state and Education Department guidance, Minisink Valley is continuing its intensive review of three various school reopening scenarios:

Scenario 1: A full return to school, with strict adherence to social distancing protocols as required by the CDC and other authorities.

Scenario 2: A return to remote learning, similar to what we experienced this spring, with adjustments made based upon many of the lessons learned from this experience.

Scenario 3: A hybrid model, which would include both in-school and remote instruction. This model would allow for a reduced daily student attendance and minimize in-person contact.

These scenarios are similar to what school districts throughout the state — and nationally — are currently reviewing.

Given the changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s critical for our community to understand and accept that this will be a fluid process, with the direction based on the latest available information and state and federal guidance. No decisions about how school will reopen this fall have been made. At this time, no changes have been made to the 2020-21 the school calendar.

Please know there is nothing we want more than to have our students, teachers and staff together at school. We understand the academic and social/emotional importance of this. But, we have a responsibility to put the health and safety of our students and staff first and foremost. This includes a reopening scenario that mitigates risk and provides for best practices in health, safety and instruction and student support. As always, we know our community remains our supportive partners in this effort.

We will continue to communicate updates to you as our work continues. We appreciate your time and insight in helping us understand what our community would like for their children during this difficult time.

Thank you for your thoughtful responses to these questions. This survey will close on Friday, July 10.
