ENGLISH TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ROSE TO THEIR CHALLENGES ON FIELD DAY

Forget trying to get your teacher to go down in the dunk tank. MVHS students practically paid for the thrill of dumping a bucket of ice water on their English teachers during Field Day on Tue., March 15. Standing icy-wet in brisk, gusty winds, English teachers proved fierce!

Every year, Mrs. Hooper’s English classes are challenged to raise money for the high school chorus Relay for Life team. The effort is made in honor of Caitlin Hammaren, a Minisink Valley alumnus who was a victim of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting.

This year, the entire English department joined in. If their students could raise $3,000 by March 24, teachers would take the Ice Bucket challenge. Each teacher’s top two fundraising students would get to raise and empty the bucket.

They had but two weeks to raise the money, but the whole student body took the effort to heart and exceeded $3,000 goal by $400! The challenge was on!
