OTISVILLE ELEMENTARY FIRST-GRADERS MARK FLAG DAY WITH A PARADE AND SONG

Today, June 14, is Flag Day! Do you know what this day means? Students in Melanie Amatetti's Otisville Elementary’s first-grade class do!

Flag day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; on Aug. 3, 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.

Ms. Amaterri’s class went on parade walk to Principal Biele’s office, around and outside of the school building waving the US Flag in honor of its special day. The song they sang was "Fifty Nifty United States."
