OREO COOKIES MAKE FOR A TASTY LAB

On Wednesday, May 6th, Mrs. Ferguson's 6th grade science class conducted an Oreo Cookie lab to illustrate the various phases of the Moon.  Following discussions as to why we see different phases of the moon, students used Oreo Cookies for a "hands on" science experiment.  Using the Oreo cookie and the icing inside, the class put frosting on the cookie to show the waxing phases and took frosting off the cookie to show the waning phases.  A fully frosted cookie represented the full moon, and the dark cookie represented the new moon phase.  It was a tasty way to learn the eight phases of the moon.
