Reading Classes Meet the Blind

On Thursday March 26, 2009 Mrs. Laderman’s father-in-law, Mr. Laderman came to Mrs. Laderman’s Reading class to share his experience about being blind.  He brought in what he calls his “gadgets” which help make his life easier.  For example, he showed us how to use a color scanner.  This gadget scans his clothing to identify what color he is wearing.  Mr. Laderman uses a cane to help him identify what is around him at all times.  All of these gadgets allow him to live an independent life.  It was nice to see that even though he is blind, he still has a positive attitude.  Mrs. Laderman, his wife, showed us how she helps him walk in a crowded area.  The students came up with questions that Mr. Laderman was more than happy to answer.  The students enjoyed the visit and they learned to appreciate what a blind person goes through everyday.
