Mr. Moyles' Assembly Line

Students in Mr. Moyles’ 8th grade social studies class experienced the rigors of working in an assembly line.  As a component of the American Industrialization unit, students participated in an assembly line just like they did in the early 1900s in Henry ford’s early factories.  Instead of constructing Model T automobiles, the students created cheeseburgers.  The students working in the assembly line then compared their finished cheeseburgers with the quality of cheeseburgers produced by the students working in the small factories.  A discussion on quantity versus quality followed.  In addition the students were encouraged to mention any problems that they faced, such as slow or fast workers, faulty equipment, and the pressure of time.  The students then revealed ways that technology has enabled factories to mass produce products that are of high quality.
