NHS Senior Citizens Event

Wednesday, April 6, 2011 the National Honor Society hosted the annual Senior Citizen Event at the High School. About 250 of our resident senior citizens followed the “yellow brick road” from the entrance of the school to the library which had been transformed with colorful blooming flowers, butterflies and bright colors in to a lovely spring garden. The students, who had spent two evenings at the school cooking, served up their ziti, pasta primavera alfredo, meatballs, salad, fresh bread, and egg salad, and chicken salad sandwiches along with coffee, tea and iced tea. There was even a table of gluten-free pastas and meatballs.

These special guests were then escorted to the auditorium and treated to a performance of this year’s musical, “The Wiz.” A delightful extravaganza; comprised of a cast saturated with dynamic voices and theatrical talent, that received rave reviews by all.

To top off their evening, they returned to the library and a dessert buffet of luscious, homemade pies, cakes, and cookies, (even sugar free). While they were enjoying their desserts, the door prizes were raffled off. Too many to list but some of the favorite prizes were: jewelry, a handmade silk scarf from the crafts class, a beautiful plant from Mrs. Peters and the CAP Program, a coach bag, several evening bags, Sharper Image flashlights, electric magnifying glasses, booklights etc.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Mr. Jaeger and the National Honor Society for another successful event and of course, to our wonderful senior citizens for letting us “entertain” you.
