As they walked into school this morning, students found denim pockets full of poems hanging from a couple of easels set up by school librarian Candice Sheerer. And so began Otisville’s celebration of National Poem in Your Pocket Day.

Poem in Your Pocket Day is but one way of celebrating National Poetry Month, in April, and it works just like you picture it: You pick and print a poem, stick it in your pocket, and share throughout your day.

In related activity earlier this month, fifth grade students read free verse poetry and created their own by combining words cut out from magazines.
