EARTH DAY

Mrs. Kemmerer's and Ms. Wilson's 4th grade classroom celebrated Earth Day on April 22nd. Mr. Salamone presented to the class the importance of gardening to the environment.  He explained roof top gardening (green roofs)  and how they help to insulate buildings, therefore reducing the usage of cooling and heating systems.  Mr. Salamone brought in some sedum for the students to plant, so the students had a chance to get their hands dirty!  Mrs. Kemmerer enlisted the help of her high school study buddy,  Andy Park,  to assist the students with planting zinnias, lupine, sunflowers, tomatoes, basil, and peas. The novice 4th grade gardeners will watch their hard work grow in the classroom greenhouse.
