Fifth grade boys and girls are participating in an early morning, intramural soccer program at the Intermediate School with Ms. Uhelsky. Students arrive Tuesday and Thursday, at 7:40 a.m., and exercise the recommended 60 minutes, prior to the start of the school day.

“It’s great exercise for the students. They go to class wide awake but settled and focused to learn,” said Coach Theresa Uhelsky, K-5 physical education teacher, who runs the program.

One day of the week, students play recreational soccer. On the other, they engage in a round-robin style tournament.

“Students come with different skill levels. Some are more passionate about the game, and more competitive than others, but they all come together to play as a team, and support each other,” Ms. Uhelsky said.

The intramural soccer program runs for six weeks. At the start of the New Year, 5th grade students will have the opportunity to sign up for morning intramural basketball.
